Pointing
the Black Friars Bridge Manchester

Pointing
needs to be replaced every 20 to 30 years and in some extreme cases a
lot sooner.
The first thing when pointing any building walls etc. is to make sure
that all of the old pointing has been removed from all joints and that
the required depth has been established.
The average depth is between 12mm to 25mm but this also depends on the
tightness of the joint between the brickwork. The tighter the joint
between the brickwork means that less depth can be achieved.
Joints to be ground out to the required depth and re-point to leave joints neatly finished.
There are various types of pointing methods that can be employed for stone and brickwork
. Weather struck, flush and bucket handle are just some of the methods used.
The grinding out method can be performed with a mechanical disc, raking
tools or even chisels to insure that none of the brick is damaged in the
process.
Different types of sand, cement, coloured mortar and even coloured dye can all make the
difference to the end result.
As you can see from our website we are very experienced in everything
that we do and treat every job whether is it brick, stone or wood etc as
if it was our own.
